The 7 Wonders They Never Taught You in School

The 7 Wonders They Never Taught You in School

Introduction

When we hear the mention of the so called Seven Wonders, we commonly refer to the ancient wonders of the world-such as the great pyramid of Giza or the hanging gardens of Babylon. They are those universal landmarks, which are familiar to people, as they are taught at schools and used as cultural symbols. But there are some other unbelievable marvels–those which schoolchildren do not learn about, which books barely mention–which are just as mind-blowing. All these wonders work through natural phenomena, architectural masterpieces and the lost civilizations. We have disclosed seven wonders that weren not taught in school, and which are the astonishing achievements by nature, and people themselves, which should have at least some kind of an acknowledgement.

The Door to Hell where Imperishable Fire is burning down in Turkmenistan

The town of Darvaza is located right in the life center of the great Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan, and there is a bitter crater of fire there which has been burning for more than 50 years. The Door to Hell is a colossal crater of gas that was formed during the year 1971 after a Soviet drilling rig inadvertently drilled through one of the caverns with natural gas. In an attempt to avoid spreading rawness of methane, geologists lit the hole on a fire- hoping that it would consume in few weeks. Never, however, did so. Nowadays, the glowing pit looks weird and alien like; it appears out of this world and at the same time turns out to be one of the most under-advertised but visually stunning phenomena on the planet.

Banaue Rice Terraces – the Green Stairways of Philippines

The Banaue Rice Terraces in the Philippines were hand crafted in the mountains of the Ifugao by the ancestors of the natives about 2,000 years ago being an evidence of the creativity and symbiosis of the man in harmony with nature. These terraces are basically thousands of feet above sea level, and extend down the slopes as a kind of giant green-colored staircase. What is more impressive about this wonder is that this terrace system has an old irrigation system, which is still operational nowadays. The enormity of these terraces and their lip tattooing is usually ignored in education systems and the world in general.

The Derinkuyu Underground City- The Turkish Underground Maze

Derinkuyu is a huge underground city in central Turkey that was constructed over 1,000 years ago, well hidden underneath the surface. This underground city is a masterpiece of primeval engineering which could accommodate 20,000 people with their livestock and supplies. It has in it ventilation shafts, wells, churches, storage rooms and even schools all of them hewn out of volcanic rock. Better still, the city linked to other underground systems and when invading, communities could conceal and stay in the underground as long as months. Its architecture is astoundingly complex and epic in proportion to the point that it is possibly the most interesting yet under appreciated architectural marvel.

The Socotra Island is the most alien landscape in the whole world.

Socotra Island found on the coast of Yemen resembles a scene in a science fiction film. The island has more than 700 species of flora and fauna that are unique to the island because it had existed geographically on its own. The most famous of these is the Dragon Blood Tree which has an umbrella shaped canopy and blood red sap. The terrain is so distinct that it is regarded by most of the scientists as the Gallapagos of Indian Ocean. Socotra has become a biological paradise yet its marvels are typically not included in the major educational discourses.

The Coral Castle: the Mysterious Monument of America

The coral castle, located in Homestead, Florida is a stone castle constructed by a single man between 1923 and1951, Edward Leedskalnin. The biggest surprise is that Leedskalnin was a 5-foot-small man of 100-pounds who put up the castle by using giant blocks of coral rocks which weighed as much as 30 tons without the help of modern equipment. He used to work mostly at night and never exposed his techniques. Other theorists indicate that he was either around a knowledge of magnetism or it lost ancient techniques of building. The Coral castle is one of the un-solved engineering mysteries of America.

The Lost World Plateau is mount Roraima.

The majestic tabletop mountain of Mount Roraima, one of the inspirations of Arthur Conan Doyle novel The Lost World, rises steeply out of the jungle and mists of Venezuela. The highest point of Roraima is a punishing mountain peak enclosed with terrifying cliffs and frequently covered in mist and is a peculiar eco-system full of creatures and flora indigenous to nowhere. The plateau itself is two billion years in age and thus among the most ancient geological structures in the globe. Although it is both geologically significant and incredibly bio diverse, Roraima is scarcely ever taught in either common geography or history lessons.

Gobekli Tepe – Oldest Temple of the World

Gobekli tepe has been located in the southeast of Turkey and it has changed the face of the ancient civilization. The archaeological site is 9600 BCE, making it being older than Stonehenge by over 6,000 years. The age of Gobekli Tepe is not the sole amazing fact as the reliance of its huge stone pillars is significant too, as they are carved in the manner of animal figures and abstract patterns. The site is causing a revision in the conventional understanding of early human society where it has questioned the common belief well founded in archaeology and evolution, and it is being argued that not agriculture but religion and temple building may be the forerunners of early civilization.

Conclusion

The world is not only incredible but also very interesting in so many ways- things which are not mentioned in the text books and what we learn in the classes. There are untold wonders, like fire craters in the desert or stone architecture constructed by single individuals so nobody really knows what happened out there and how it is possible. Not only do greater awareness of them make us more knowledgeable but also feed our wonder and awe toward the less popular wonders of the natural world. We will always be able to explore and discover some hidden gems of our planet, in its past and present and, as we do that, we need to remember that there is always magic around the textbook.
